Songs My Daddy Used to Sing
I put together "Songs My
Daddy Used to Sing" about 1980 to honor the father of the wife of a
long time friend and musician. In 1971 he brought his new fiancée to
meet me and my wife. After dinner he requested that I sing some of my
favorite songs for his fiancée, I sang with their encouragement until
2am and she commented that I sang many of the songs her father, from
Oklahoma, once sang and she and her siblings enjoyed his music very
much. After knowing her for almost 10 years, I wrote this song for her
father, now deceased. Our own three daughters when they heard the song
told me that it was the song that they should have written for me, but
had not done so. I love to hear the songs my daddy used to sing 'Remember me, when the candle
lights are gleaming' When evening fell and daddy come in from work, 'Wedding bells are ringing in the
chapel' When friends would come to call we would sit around
and talk 'Go and leave me if you want to' At length I left home, I set out to roam 'This heart would break in two if
you refuse me' I love to hear the songs my daddy used to sing 'Remember me, when the candle
lights are gleaming'
